Local aspiring country artist releases debut single and CD

HATLEY – Priscilla Barker has been busy doing radio interviews since the release of her first album, “Slow Town,” including last Thursday morning’s Miss 98 interview in Tupelo.
In addition to Miss 98, her CD has been playing since last week on country music stations 106.9 in Jackson, Tenn. and 101.9 in Tupelo.
The album’s lead single, “Slow Town,” is also available on iTunes and Google Play and can be heard on YouTube.

The Hatley High School senior will graduate early later this month.
“Since I have enough classes to graduate early, that will give me the time to do all the things needed to get my singing career moving. I have a lot of projects going on and need to be able to take care of them,” Barker said.
She has been in and out of Nashville to make contacts and record her CD. She has also signed with promotion company SESAC.
In addition to showcasing the artist, SESAC collects royalties for television and radio. They also take an artist’s songwriting talents and pitch them to established singers.
Barker co-wrote “Slow Town” and three other songs on her CD.
She is currently shopping around for labels. The more her music is played on the radio, the better it looks to record labels.
“I am blessed to be able to do this since it’s something I have always wanted to do. My parents have always encouraged me to follow my dreams and supported me.”

Barker said the music business was a hard business to get into. She goes to church with someone who knew one of her producers and he recommended her.
“In this business, contact and networking is very important. My producer knows everybody and has played instruments for some very important people. It’s all about who you know and who they know,” Barker said.
She said her nine siblings are her biggest fans, but also her biggest critics.
Barker is the daughter of Chris and Cynthia Barker of Hatley.
